Reminder: Bike Park Appeal Hearing Set for Tuesday

An appeal hearing concerning a planned bike park project will take place at 7:30 p.m. May 8 at during a regular city council meeting.

 prompted the city to cancel a work party last June that would have marked the beginning of construction on the new park, located on two acres of city-owned land within . Residents told Redmond Patch at the time that they objected to the park because it would lead to trees being cut down and bring in children and teenagers from outside the immediate neighborhood.

City officials, meanwhile, , and that involvement from those who already use the space will translate into a high level of responsibility toward the park.

At the May 8 appeal hearing, the Redmond City Council will evaluate a hearing examiner's decision regarding the project's site plan entitlement. Only the appelant and city representatives will be able to address council during the hearing, but anyone may attend.

According to an April 9 email from Carolyn Hope, a senior park planner for the City of Redmond, residents have also filed a Complaint for Declaratory Judgment in King County Superior Court regarding the project's State Environmental Protection Act (SEPA) plan, which was appealed by residents in June 2011. After a hearing examiner ruled in favor of the city last December, the appelants asked for a reconsideration of their original SEPA appeal, but that request was denied by the hearing examiner on Jan. 3.
