Redmond Nonprofit Hosts Walking Challenge to Support People with Paralysis

Redmond, WA – What if you lost the ability to walk?  There are an estimated 70,000 people in the Seattle area with some form of paralysis. Many were active, able-bodied individuals before being affected with a spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury or degenerative illness such as Multiple Sclerosis.

, a Redmond non-profit organization providing intensive exercise therapy to people with paralysis, is holding its third-annual Walk A Mile in My Shoes, to encourage a month of movement and raise awareness and financial support for the organization.

The Walk a Mile in my Shoes celebration of movement takes place through July 31. Participants will be able to earn mileage by walking, running, or hiking and can keep track of their miles and inspire friends and family members to match their miles for tax deductable donations that will support Pushing Boundaries.

The challenge will culminate with a Final Mile Celebration on Sunday, Aug. 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at in Redmond. In addition to walking a final mile together and group activities, other organizations such as Seattle SLAM, Outdoors for All, Sammamish Rowing Association’s Adaptive Rowing, and many others will be on hand.

“Community awareness of who we are and what we are doing to help those with paralysis get stronger and gain increased independence has been outstanding,” said Tricia Lazzar, Executive Director. “Exercise and health are part of our core values and the hope we are providing to our clients and their families is priceless.”
