RHS Student Wins National Merit Scholarship

From the :

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced on Wednesday that Benjamin Keller, a senior at Redmond High School, will receive a National Merit Corporate-Sponsored Scholarship financed by one of the 200 companies, foundations and other business organizations that sponsor these scholarships.

Benjamin is among the 1,000 distinguished high school seniors nationwide to win these scholarships. He is one of 19 statewide to receive a Corporate-Sponsored Scholarship and one of only 12 students in Washington to receive a National Merit Boeing Scholarship.

Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the Finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship Competition and met the criteria of their scholarship sponsors. The Boeing Company supports Merit Scholarship awards annually for children of employees. The Merit Scholarship awards are a part of the Boeing Company’s comprehensive aid to education program.

Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $500 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $5,000. Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.

RASP is a wonderful group of writers from all walks of Redmond life. They hold an open mic on theRead More last Friday of every month at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center. Not only do they have featured readers like Kathleen, but the open mic portion encourages anyone from the community to read their work. It's regularly quite good. All those with a hunger to get their work out in the world should attend.
