Rotary Recognizes April Students of the Month

From Rotary Club of Redmond:

Rotary Club of Redmond recently named two (RHS) students Student of the Month.

Sophia Xu was honored as Senior Student of the Month, while Bailey Jenks received the Junior Student of the Month award for April. Bailey Jenks attended the last meeting, when Club President Steve Bozick presented her with a plaque. Senior Sophia Xu is an extremely gifted and accomplished student, according to the Rotary selection committee. She is president of the RHS math club and has already done summer research in microbiology at Stony Brook University. She is active in tennis and Chinese painting and is planning a career in computational biology. She has the enviable record of being admitted to California Institute of Technology, Stanford and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and now must choose between them.

Junior Bailey Jenks is active as captain of the school dance team that won a national academic achievement award. She is a member of the National Honor Society, enjoys mathematics and science and is interested in stem cell research. According to the committee, she has excellent writing skills, and her dream job is writing for National Geographic magazine. She volunteers at Woodinville Library and participates in annual fund drives to support a children’s hospital.

RASP is a wonderful group of writers from all walks of Redmond life. They hold an open mic on theRead More last Friday of every month at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center. Not only do they have featured readers like Kathleen, but the open mic portion encourages anyone from the community to read their work. It's regularly quite good. All those with a hunger to get their work out in the world should attend.
