LWSD students win big at statewide National History Day contest

Teams from five LWSD schools participated in the statewide National History Day contest held on Saturday, May 3 at Green River Community College in Auburn, Wash.: International Community School (ICS), Lake Washington High School (LWHS), Redmond High School (RHS), Redmond Middle School (RMS), and STEM High School (STEM).  The following students placed at that event and will move on to the National event

Redmond High senior qualifies for USAMO

Peter Brechner, a senior at Redmond High School is one of only six students from Washington who has qualified to take the United States of America Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO). There are only 263 qualifiers from the U.S. and Canada. Students who perform well on the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 10 or AMC 12 then qualify for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME). Students who perform well on the AIME are then invited to participate in the USAMO.

 

LWSD students qualify for FBLA National Conference

Students from International Community School and Tesla STEM High School competed in the state Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) state conference held April 17-19 in Seattle, Wash. for the opportunity to move on to the national conference to be held in Nashville, Tenn. from June 29 – July 2. The following students will move on to the national conference. (Students who placed first through third automatically qualify. Students who placed fourth or fifth may have the opportunity to attend the national conference).

RHS students win big at Model United Nations Conference

The Viking Model United Nations Conference, (VIKMUN) was held at Western Washington University on April 26 and 27. This was the largest secondary Model UN Conference in the Pacific Northwest, with 27 schools represented by a total of 259 delegates. The conference offered eight committees that aimed to provide an opportunity for high school students to engage in problems in international relations.

 

Redmond High School (RHS) Model UN Winners included Julia Doherty (junior) who received one of the highest designation awards, “Most Diplomatic” for Security Council (A). Also receiving awards were Andrew Luo (junior) as “Distinguished Delegate” for the Commission on the Status of Women and Jordan Johnson (junior) as “Distinguished Justice” for the International Court of Justice. RHS had a total of 16 Delegate Committee Members in attendance.
