Candlelight Vigil and Balloon Release Planned for Jackson Roos

The Evergreen Middle School PTSA is hosting a memorial event for youth in the community on Monday evening at Hartman Park.

Parents at Evergreen Middle School are organizing a candlelight vigil and balloon release Monday evening in honor of Jackson Roos, a 12-year-old student who died in a zip-lining accident on Wednesday.

The following information was posted on the Jackson Roos Memorial Facebook page

Please join us Monday, October 1st at 5:15 p.m. at Hartman Park in the 4 upper fields to honor Jackson Roos. This is a memorial for the YOUTH IN OUR COMMUNITY that have been so touched by the unexpected and tragic loss of Jackson Roos. We will be coming together to celebrate his life, pray, and sing. Please bring a candle to light at the event. We will have extra candles on hand for those that cannot bring a candle. We will also be releasing 12 balloons in his honor at the very end. Please try to carpool, park on the street, or park at the church. We look forward to celebrating Jackson’s life with the youth in this community.

A public viewing for Jackson will take place following the vigil from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located across the street from the park at 10115 172nd Ave. NE. His funeral services will take place there on Tuesday (click here for more information).

An obituary has also been posted on the Facebook page. It describes Jackson as a "gentle, happy, active, and loving boy" who participated in several different community activities and "always had a smile and a kind word to say."

The obituary also states that a scholarship fund has been established in Jackson's name at Banner Bank in Redmond.

RASP is a wonderful group of writers from all walks of Redmond life. They hold an open mic on theRead More last Friday of every month at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center. Not only do they have featured readers like Kathleen, but the open mic portion encourages anyone from the community to read their work. It's regularly quite good. All those with a hunger to get their work out in the world should attend.
