Eastside Winter Shelters Open Tonight

An annual cold-weather shelter program for the homeless will resume at 8:30 tonight as the Eastside Winter Shelters open their doors for the season.

The shelters, open daily from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. through March 12, are both located in Bellevue. The men's shelter will be held at , 17222 NE Eighth St., and the women's and children's shelter will be located at the , 911 164th Ave. NE.

The men's shelter will accommodate up to 50 people, while the women's and children's facility can house up to 15. An evening meal will be served at both locations.

Eastside Winter Shelters is a collaborative social service that uses funding from the cities of Redmond, Bellevue, Issaquah and Kirkland, along with several private organizations, including The Sophia Way and Congregations for the Homeless.

Last winter, the shelter after being held in Bellevue's Crossroads Community Center and the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center. Organizers said at the time that a lack of ongoing available space prevented the shelter from staying open later in the year.
