High Winds, Heavy Rain Forecast for Redmond on Friday

The storm could bring wind gusts in the Puget Sound area.

Update 7:30 p.m. Thursday: The National Weather Service has canceled the special weather statement for Redmond and now say Friday's forecast is: Rain. High near 47. South wind 16 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Western Washington is in for a wet and windy Friday, with gusts of up to 50 mph possible in some areas.

Heavy rain is also expected throughout the region, and sustained winds of 18 to 23 mph are expected in Redmond. (See complete local forecast here.)

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for the Western Washington area, including a Winter Storm Watch for the mountains, where 1 to 2 feet of fresh snow is expected to fall by Saturday morning. Backcountry travel is not recommended during this time, due to avalanche danger.

Things are expected to calm down for the weekend. In Redmond, the Saturday forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of showers with a southwest wind of 6 to 10 mph.
