Pet of the Week: Luna the Terrier Mix

Luna is a mix of Italian greyhound, terrier and chihuahua and needs a permanent home.

At only eight pounds, Luna is a cute little mix of Italian greyhound, chihuahua and terrier. She is 10 months old and will only probably get slightly bigger.

Redmond-based Motley Zoo rescued Luna and placed her in its foster family program. Due to a lack of attention when she was young, Luna is somewhat shy but is dying to come out of her shell. With the right family, patience and attention, she will be a confident little girl in no time.

She loves other dogs and looks to them as her role models for how to be a dog. So, Luna would be best as a second dog (or third) in a family. For example, she is coming along nicely with housetraining, but watching another dog follow the routine of the house will help her learn it faster.

She does chase cats but in time could learn to leave them alone. She would be best with children 10 years old or older, since she is a little shy.

Luna is super smart and very playful. She loves going on a leash and her foster mom is teaching her how to walk properly. She is excited and silly and is already learning commands such as "off."

If you are thinking of getting a puppy, but you don't really want to start from square one, Luna would be a great dog for you. Her size and temperament are already known, and since she is already on her way to learning how to be a well-behaved dog, it won't take as long to get her used to a family as a brand new puppy would.

NOTES FROM LUNA'S FOSTER MOM: All in all Luna is a sweet, cuddly girl who will warm up quickly, but the leash is a great tool to keep her nearby and help introduce her to new things. She is already getting more comfortable, but it will take a little time before she completely trusts her new environment. At the same time, she will sleep like a baby in your arms because she wants to cuddle and be friends. You just have to help encourage her. We expect that she will blossom as she keeps getting to know her new surroundings, and she will make an excellent family pet!

Motley Zoo Rescue of Redmond is a nonprofit animal rescue organization that is entirely run by volunteers. Motley Zoo Rescue does not have a shelter location but instead houses all of its needy pets in foster homes.

All dogs adopted from Motley Zoo come with a leash and either a Martingale collar or a harness, depending on each dog's particular needs. In addition, all dogs are spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and up on their vaccinations. An adoption fee goes toward the care and transportation of each animal and helps support the work of Motley Zoo Animal Rescue.
