Pet of the Week: Rango the Chihuahua

This rescued Chihuaha is looking for a quiet permanent home.

How can you resist this darling face? This is a Chihuahua named Rango and he is the perfect example of the many wonderful dogs that are in animal shelters waiting for the right family to come along. Rango would be great for a quiet home or a home with older children. He is a ‘purse dog’ weighing just under 5 pounds and is about 2½ years old. He should get a tiny bit bigger since he is a little underweight due to his circumstances. Sadly, Rango was in a situation where he was crated and not fed or exercised properly. Luckily, he was rescued and now is in a caring foster home through in Redmond.

Due to his small size, he would love a mellow dog friend or he would like to be the only dog. Rango would be fine with cats since most of them will be bigger than him! He is working on getting housebroken from his foster home and is doing okay in a crate as long as it is a bigger one.

He is neutered, microchipped, flea treated, dewormed, and is current on vaccines. Here is what his foster mom says about Rango...

From Rango’s Foster Mom:

Rango is such a sweetheart, all he wants to do is cuddle! But he also knows how to have a good time—mostly he enjoys spinning in circles to chase his tail, playing with his feet and wagging his tail. He is equally happy being curled up in your arms as he is on a warm blanket. He has personality, but he isn't a hyper little dog; he's a pretty chill little guy. Rango is still learning how to walk on a leash, so he will just stand there and look a little confused, but he is learning and with regular outings he will get the hang of it!

Rango is underweight and lacks some muscle definition in his back legs due to lack of exercise. However, he is able to climb up his foster's stairs just fine so as he continues to get proper exercise, he'll gain muscle and definition. He does potty outside and he even seems to be able to hold it for regular work day (crated). Since Rango was not worked with much before now, he doesn't know commands just yet. He's quiet and gentle and sweet. He can get protective of his food around certain other dogs but his foster has found that feeding him in his crate is an easy solution.

He would do great with an experienced owner who will continue his foster's work with him on boundaries and good manners so he can continue to gain confidence. He is pretty small, so he'll need a family that will take care to keep him safe, but his size is also an advantage because he can literally go just about anywhere! He's such a silly, sweet dog who wasn't given a chance to learn to be a dog but he is so ready to start fresh with a loving home! Could it be yours?
