Purple Café Owners to Open New Woodinville Restaurant in Former Tully's Space

Heavy Restaurant Group announced in a news release Tuesday that it is leasing the Woodinville space formerly held by Tully's Coffee and plans to open a new casual restaurant with local wine, beer and spirits.

The company owns restaurants in Kirkland, Seattle, Bellevue and Woodinville under the names Purple Café and Wine Bar, Barrio Mexican Kitchen and Bar, Lot No. 3 and Cast Iron.

According to the news release, Heavy Restaurant Group has signed a lease on the space in Hollywood Vineyards in Woodinville and plans to open the new restaurant next spring. The restaurant will be located at 14479 Woodinville Redmond Road in the same shopping center where the original Purple location opened in 2001.

“Woodinville is where it all started and now, 11 years later, we’re coming full circle,” said Larry Kurofsky, owner of Heavy Restaurant Group in the news release. “We are thrilled to bring our newest concept back to the community that we know so well. Woodinville has been great to us and this is the perfect location for us to introduce something new and special, a true neighborhood hangout.”

The 2,800-square-foot restaurant will feature casual dining with a café atmosphere and outdoor seating. A variety of seating options, including large group tables and bar and counter seating, will be offered.

Food options will include salads, sandwiches and dinner options. The drink menu will feature local beers and wines, along with spirits from Woodinville distilleries. Espresso will also be served.

In October, Tully's Coffee filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and closed its Woodinville store in the Hollywood Vineyards shopping center, along with the Redmond shops in Bella Bottega and Redmond Town Center. Bella Bottega property manager Brad Merlino told Patch in November that the vacant Tully's space will likely become a restaurant but declined to get into specifics.
