Redmond Resident Named Metro Transit Operator Of The Year

Robert Duncan, a Redmond resident, drives Metro Route 311 between Woodinville and Seattle part-time. But this year, Robert Duncan can add another distinction -- Metro Transit Operator of the Year, 2012.

The honor was bestowed by his fellow drivers. Duncan, 60, retired in April, but was rehired in June as a part-time driver.

Duncan learned of his honor at a surprise ceremony at Metro's East Base in Bellevue, where he was presented with a patch, a jacket, a hat, a plaque and other items commemorating his honor, presented to him by King County Executive Dow Constantine, Metro Transit General Manager Kevin Desmond and others at King County.

The Seattle native first worked for Metro in 1977, taking a break from bus driving for a time to be a police officer in Seattle. Metro King County Transit said that Duncan also earned a 28-year safe driving award - marking as many years not causing any accidents.
