Redmond Ridge ROA: 'No Discussion of Rental Increase' for Library Express

The branch will close at the end of the month while the Redmond Ridge Community Center undergoes maintenance.

A representative with the Redmond Ridge Residential Owners Association (ROA) tells Patch the group has not proposed increasing rent for the King County Library System's express location.

ROA director Sandy Cobb says many residents believe the branch is closing for good because of a lease dispute, but that's simply not true.

“That’s not what’s happening," she said. "There’s some misinformation getting out there.”

Redmond Patch posted news of the closure earlier this week, based on an announcement from the KCLS website. The entire Redmond Ridge ROA office—where the library express is housed—is shutting down temporarily this spring for maintenance work, Cobb said.

The ROA has decided to use the closure as a time to re-examine its contract with KCLS, which has remained unchanged for five years, Cobb said. The library currently pays the association $1 per month to use the building.

The ROA board of directors has scheduled a meeting later this month to talk about the contract and gather resident input on the branch. As of now, the contract is still under review, Cobb said.

"I don’t know what will happen with (the meeting)," she said. "There has been no discussion of rental increase at this time.”

Meanwhile, the library express location will close for pickups after May 30. Starting on May 22, all new book holds placed to the express branch will instead be housed at the downtown Redmond Regional Library.

The ROA aims for the community center to re-open by July. Cobb has invited residents with questions or concerns about the library express to contact her directly via management@redmondridgeroa.com.
