Redmond Rotary's Bicycle Tour Raises $20,000 for Local Charities

Hopelink and Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center were selected to receive most of the proceeds from the rotary's RedSpoke fundraiser.

Rotary Club of Redmond members gathered last week for a reunion dinner to celebrate those who participated in , a five-day, 300-mile recreational bicycle tour from Redmond to Spokane that serves as the club's major fundraiser. The dinner also marked the kick-off for next year’s ride, which will be the 25th anniversary of RedSpoke.

Using proceeds from the fundraising ride, club leaders presented $10,000 to to assist homeless families with transitional housing, and another $10,000 check to to provide therapy for disabled children and adults. These programs received the major funding from the ride, with additional funds going toward the club's other charitable activities.

Every summer since 1988, bicyclists from as far away as New York and Alaska have been participating in RedSpoke, the Rotary Club of Redmond’s signature fundraising event. Sponsors of this year’s event included Marriott Hotels, Jon Magnussen, Oak Harbour Freight Lines, Redmond Town Center, JE Cumming Corporation, Banner Bank, Peters Creek, Boston Private Bank, John L. Scott, R & E Cycles, Siemens, Icicle Seafoods and SeattleBikeLaw.com.
