Rich Block, Poor Block: How Does Your Edmonds Neighborhood Compare?

Do different parts of Edmonds have different income levels? And how do the closest neighbors of Edmonds residents compare? Read on to find the answer.

Drive through Edmonds, and you will notice that some neighborhoods are more affluent than others. But just how wide is the disparity between different parts of town?

A new data-based website, Rich Blocks, Poor Blocks provides some answers to that question. The site uses U.S. census information compiled from the 2007-2011 American Community Survey to show median household income and monthly rents by census tract.

The data show that the median household income in Edmonds ranges from $46,501 to $105,504. (Woodway was even higher, at $133,571.) Not surprisingly, income levels are generally higher along the waterfront—especially north and south of downtown—and relatively lower near State Routes 99 and 104.

Almost every Edmonds tract has an average income well above the statewide middle-class range of $52,508 to $64,322.

Median monthly rents tend to mirror the same geographical pattern, ranging for $745 a month in the southeast corner of town to $1,311 along the waterfront.

Edmonds patch is posting A solid map of your neighborhood incomes. THANKS TO EDMONDS PATCH AND THEIR SO CALLED EMPLOYEES/"reporters", now robbers and thieves can target your neighborhood/household. Thanks to them, now we can all be on more edge than most already are. Thanks for all the hard hitting work you guys do. #not. Happy? no profanity... like kids even read this website. Or adults would care.

Yeah- thanks a lot, EdmondsPatch, for revealing that property values are higher near the waterfront and lower near Highway 99. You may as well have just handed the burglars the keys to all of our homes. Good job, guys!

Good grief...You certainly do not have to be a Rocket Scientist to figure out the property values are going to be higher closer to the water!!! How many thiefs do you two think read the PATCH???

Time for the writer to return to math class to discover the difference between median, mean and mode. What has been described in the piece is actually the range of "means" or averages not the median in come. The median income is that number that separates the upper 50% and the lower %50 percent of incomes. In other words, half of all incomes are above and half of the incomes are below the median income
