A Tree Planting Event for the Whole Family

  • Where/When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Sammamish Wetlands near Marymoor Park.
  • Why Go: Join Whole Foods Market and the Friends of Cedar River Watershed in planting trees and native plants along Lake Sammamish. All volunteers will receive free pre-screening passes to see Dr. Seuss' The Lorax on March 1, a Lorax T-shirt and snacks.
  • Pricing: Free. Space is limited and an RSVP is required. Email nisa@cedarriver.org with your name and number of participants. Marymoor Park charges $1 for parking.

Author Event: Red Goddess Rising

  • Where/When: 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Soulfood Books in Redmond.
  • Why Go: Soul Food Books and Cafe will host an Eastside interactive reading of Red Goddess Rising this Sunday afternoon. The event is sort of like a reading on steroids—Halle will be reading some short excerpts, talking about Egypt, and showing a presentation on the big screen, as well as answering questions about her spiritual awakening, what's going on in Egypt, and the book.
  • Pricing: Free.

The Basics of Climbing Mount Rainier

  • Where/When: 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at REI in Redmond Town Center.
  • Why Go: Ever wondered what it takes to summit Washington's highest peak? Join the Climb to Fight Breast Cancer group as they discuss the basics of completing the famous climb.
  • Pricing: Free.

Totally Teal Toast

  • Where/When: 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Lot no. 3.
  • Why Go: Help support The Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research by attending the first-annual Totally Teal Toast, an '80s-themed fundraising bar crawl in downtown Bellevue. Participants will start with their initial toast at 12:30pm and continue down to four other establishments: Pearl Bar and Dining, Paddy Coynes, Lucky Strike and Earls. With an all out '80s theme, participants should plan to wear their finest neon gear. Prizes will be given out for best costume with giveaways from Totally Teal Toast sponsors, including the award-winning Woodinville Whiskey Company.
  • Cost: $60. Includes five drinks and a fanny pack.

48th District Town Hall Meeting

  • Where/When: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at Redmond City Hall.
  • Why Go: Sen. Rodney Tom will join Rep. Ross Hunter and Rep. Deb Eddy for a town hall meeting this Saturday to discuss progress made thus far in the 2012 legislative session and to answer questions from the public.
  • Pricing: Free.
