City Hosts Found Poetry Contest

The competition is open to everyone.

Throughout the month of July the Redmond Arts Commission and the Redmond Poet Laureate are inviting people to create found poems and enter them into Redmond’s Found Poetry Contest.

Found Poetry is an interesting and challenging form of poetry. It is poetry created by taking pieces of existing text and rearranging it to create a poem. The existing text can come from places as common as a newspaper or a book to more unusual places like a dinner menu, street sign or the back of a friends t-shirt. Found Poetry is fun and anyone can create a found poem!

“The contest is a great way for first time poets to dive into the world of poetry, or for experienced poets to challenge themselves,” said Marianne Johnson, the city's arts coordinator.

The contest is open to everyone, although it is best suited for those aged 6 and above. Winners in the contest will receive prizes and have their poem published. For more information or to receive an entry form, call 425-556-2367 or visit www.redmond.gov/arts.
