Free Songwriting Workshop with Dejah Léger at Old Fire House Teen Center

On Tuesday, November 1, the Old Fire House Teen Center at 16510 N.E. 79th St. will hold a songwriting workshop from 6 to 8 p.m.

The workshop will be taught by singer, muscian, and graphic artist Dejah Léger.

Class description: "Nothing unveils who we  are more than songwriting. In a world of indie labels and ever-expanding musical influences, having an edge to crafting a song can make all the difference.  In this class, we will look at how great songs are constructed, how to put lyrics to music, what to avoid when writing a song, how to make a song your own, and how to begin marketing your unique songwriting skills. Taught by a career musician who works full time as a music publicist, this class will leave you with the building blocks to begin writing or hone your existing songwriting talent!"

About the artist: Dejah Léger started writing songs when she was 15 years old, modeling herself after 1970s songsters like Joni Mitchell and Kate Wolf.  She strongly believes that lyrics should be poetry in musical motion, able to tell a story, inspire, and move an audience, and that lyrics should always connect to the music in a meaningful and powerful way.  To date she has released three albums.  Currently, Dejah is a founding member of La Famille Léger, a french-Canadian group that tours the west coast and Canada.  She works as a graphic artist for Hearth Music and is intricately tied to the behind-the-scenes folk music world.
