Gallery: SummerFest Fills Downtown Kirkland With Art, Music, Food and Fun

Crowds packed downtown Kirkland for the city's first-ever SummerFest over the weekend.

Thousands jammed and surrounding downtown streets Friday and Saturday, listening to great music, watching artists at work and browsing dozens of booths and food trucks during Kirkland's first SummerFest.

Weather could not have been better - it was a classic downtown Kirkland summertime event. Please check out the photos in our gallery of shots taken Saturday afternoon!

During the event, and around town, I heard only positive comments from people who attended Kirkland's Summerfest. Those who met every Wednesday evening for the past year (or so) who made this possible deserve our tremendous thanks for making Kirkland such a vibrant place to live.

I agree Trent, it was a terrific event, very well organized. I know there were many involved, but I'd like to give a big shout out to super-volunteers Rob Butcher, Michelle Sailor and Santos and Sue Contreras. Way to go! Oh yeah, Jeff Hoerth too!

I helped out at the climbing wall, and I can't tell you how excited the kids were when I was able to answer their questions of "How much is it?" with "FREE!". Some kids climbed multiple times. A huge shout-out also goes to the sponsors that made it all possible. See the list on the SummerFest website here: http://kirklandsummerfest.com/index.php/get-involved#rt-header-panel

Yes, Greg and Tia, someone said something about it taking a village but it feels like SummerFest took a bit of a larger municipality than that and we're thrilled with the results. A large core committee planned for nearly a year, sponsors stepped up, many individuals made donations, suppliers performed wonderfully, a flash mob flashed, volunteers volunteered, and a multitude of people of all ages enjoyed the result. Oh, thanks, also, to that big yellow orb in the sky. So it's incredible what it takes to put on a party like SummerFest. Thanks to all, including yourself Greg for the coverage that helps to let people know not to miss next year's fun.
