Teen Center Hosts Open Mic Night, Competitive Poetry Slam This Weekend

The event culminates a series of competitive writing workshops organized by Redmond Association of Spokenword.

Poetry gets competitive in Redmond this Saturday night as Redmond Association of Spokenword (RASP) hosts an open mic and "Island-Style Slam" at the .

The event will culminate a month-long  taught by local authors and poets. 

Saturday's event begins at 6 p.m. and will be emceed by comedian Chris Cashman, an Eastlake High School graduate and son of Almost Live's Pat Cashman.

Along with an open mic session, the evening will also feature an "Island-Style Slam" in which participants will use the same three words to write poems as quickly as possible. The poems will be evaluated by a panel of judges, and cash prizes will be presented to the top three finishers.

Following the poetry events, a Folklife musical open mic session will begin at 8 p.m.
