The 10th annual Kirkland Artist Studio Tour, one of the largest studio art tours in Western Washington, will be held Mother’s Day weekend (May 11 and 12) from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
KAST 2013 will showcase 41 artists at 20 galleries and home studios. About half the artists are first-time KAST participants. Most are residents of King and Snohomish counties, including three from Redmond.
The three Redmond artists are:
Kathy Bennett -- printmaking, mixed media
E. Valentine DeWald -- printmaking
Elaine Moore -- ceramics
Artist bios and portfolio pieces can be seen at: http://kirklandartiststudiotour.com/artists
The artists, selected by the Kirkland Arts Center, work in a variety of media, including pottery, painting, metalwork, jewelry, sculpture, photography, glass, printmaking and mixed media. During the weekend, artists will be on site working in many of the studios, offering visitors a chance to watch demonstrations, ask questions, purchase art directly from the artists, or just soak up the inspiration.
The best places to start the self-guided tour are at the Kirkland Arts Center (620 Market Street) or the KAC Store (336 Parkplace Center), where free maps are available. Many studios are within walking distance of each other so visitors can stroll from one location to the next or hop on bikes.
Founded in 1962, Kirkland Arts Center, located in the historic Peter Kirk Building, is one of the few community- based centers for arts instruction and contemporary exhibits in the region.
