Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, a discount grocery store, is slated to move to Bellevue to the Crossroads Station building, the company confirmed.
The city approved this week a permit to remodel Crossroads Station at 15625 NE 8th St. from a strip mall to a 14,000-foot grocery store, according to a city notice of decision. The appeal period ends Jan. 31, 2013.
One of the major tenants at Crossroads Station, Albert Lee Appliance, has already moved out, and other businesses at the location intend to relocate, according to the permit application. Crossroads Station is located across the street from Crossroads Bellevue shopping center.
It's still too early to say when Grocery Outlet will open and there is no opening date set, company officials said.
The bulk of Grocery Outlet's offerings is produce, food and brand name products sold at up to 50 percent off retail prices found at conventional stores. The company is able to offer the discounts by obtaining the surplus inventory and canceled orders from brand name suppliers and manufacturers, according to the company website.
The stores' offerings change weekly, and good deals may be offered only once.
The Berkeley, Calif.-based company has more than 185 locations nationwide. Currently, 45 of those locations are in Washington, said Grocery Outlet Director of Marketing Mark Holz.
The company selects each location but each store is independently owned and operated by locals who are chosen and trained by the company, Holz said.
"The owners and operators are very locally connected" who get involved in their local neighborhoods, Holz said. However, the company has not yet selected the owner and operator of the Crossroads Grocery Outlet, he said.
