The luck o' the Irish was upon this week as the Bella Bottega pub beat out the competition in our .

Named after John James Mahoney, an Irish immigrant and grandfather of one of the establishment's part owners, the winning pub offers Irish cheer all year long with a variety of beers on tap, a regular menu of traditional favorites, and soccer games on the TV. J.J. Mahoney's also hosts an annual St. Patrick's Day run on the Sammamish River Trail.

The pub brought in 31 of 55 total votes, followed by the with 19 votes. But considering two enthusiastic comments in favor of the Celtic Bayou, it's obvious Redmond has more than one great place to celebrate this weekend.

J.J. Mahoney's will be opening at 9 a.m. and serving traditional Irish favorites, while Celtic Bayou will be offering live music from the Emerald Isle beginning at 7 p.m.

Plenty of other bars and restaurants will be channeling some Irish spirit on Saturday, with  pouring green beer, the  up on Redmond Ridge offering a special Irish menu, and the  opening early for Irish breakfast and serving up corned beef starting at 4 p.m.

RASP is a wonderful group of writers from all walks of Redmond life. They hold an open mic on theRead More last Friday of every month at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center. Not only do they have featured readers like Kathleen, but the open mic portion encourages anyone from the community to read their work. It's regularly quite good. All those with a hunger to get their work out in the world should attend.
