Le Rendez-Vous to Begin Serving Crêpes

The French bakery and café will celebrate Bastille Day with a crêpes party this Saturday.

, the (relatively) new French bakery and café in Redmond's Bella Bottega shopping center, will begin serving crêpes this Saturday, July 14.

Café owners Khalid and Nadia Kaskou, a brother-and-sister team originally from Paris, said they decided to launch their new crêpes menu on Saturday in honor of Bastille Day, the national holiday known as “la Fête du 14 juillet” in France.

"(The holiday) commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, an act of open rebellion against the monarchy that is considered the flashpoint of the French Revolution," Khalid Kaskou wrote in an email to Redmond Patch. "During the Revolution, chefs—who had cooked for the nobility—found themselves out of work. They were forced to open public restaurants, and the art of fine dining was born."
