Sorrento's Coffee Closing Feb. 17

A manager told Patch that poor sales have prompted the closure of the Redmond Ridge coffee shop.

on Redmond Ridge will close Feb. 17, a store manager confirmed to Patch Thursday afternoon.

Glen Kim said the shop has struggled financially because of the down economy, high rent rates, and being in a location with low visibility from the main road. He said the shop has been open on the Ridge for the last 10 years and is currently losing between $100 and $200 each day.

"It's not a viable business," he said.

Part of the problem, Kim said, is that the shop is located in a shopping center off of Northeast Novelty Hill Road.

"To be an espresso drive through, you have to be seen," he said.

Sorrento's offers both indoor seating and a drive through and has served as a gathering place for many Redmond Ridge residents. The only other full-service coffee shop in the immediate area is a  in the QFC shopping center.

I wish the property owners would have been willing to work out a win/win lease with this small business which would enable them to stay. Our neighborhood doesn't need another low end national chain store like Subway in the complex. I surely hope the property owners will be able to fill the space with another local, small business. Sorrento's - we're sad to see you close!
