SoulFood Books Launches New Sustainability Speaker Series

The coffee shop will feature a different speaker on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

in Redmond will launch a new sustainability speaker series tonight by hosting Shonagh Home, an advocate for organic pest control and head of a grassroots project called One Neighborhood At a Time.

The new Sustainability Wednesday talks will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. every fourth Wednesday of the month. Children are welcome to attend, and kids' activities will be provided.

Sara Pelfrey, co-owner of SoulFood Books, said the speaker series is designed to address the interests or concerns of Redmond-area residents. Pelfrey is working with community members to decide on topics for future speakers, she said.

“The goal of it is to be a community-driven event,” she said.

One Neighborhood At a Time is a group that advocates for pesticide-free pest control in an effort to curb "Colony Collapse Disorder," or the elimination of pollinators in local neighborhoods. Disappearing bees were the topic of a on Woodinville Patch.
