Farrel-McWhirter Barnyard Set to Reopen Friday

A rodent problem has kept the structure off-limits for the past three weeks.

The barnyard at will reopen at noon Friday following a due to a rodent problem.

On May 5, the city reported it was closing the barnyard to control the area's rat population and repair some minor structural damage that was caused by the rodents.

“We used this opportunity to make some much needed improvements in the barnyard,” Greg Byszeski, the city's deputy director of parks and recreation, said in a news release. “Projects include barn and stall renovations, drainage repair and other barnyard improvements.”

Farm animals will be back in their newly renovated homes in time for the Memorial Day Weekend, and city officials said two of Farrel-McWhirter's goats are scheduled to give birth any day.

Barnyard viewing hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
