Redmond Patch Week in Review

Here's a look back at some of our top stories from the past seven days.

Monday: We started off the week with a , Redmond's annual summer festival that kicks off this Friday on the city hall campus. This year the lineup of events expands to three days with a new 5k run scheduled for Sunday morning.

Tuesday: Redmond Patch restaurant reviewer Dusty Somers to sample some of the Japanese combination meals from which the restaurant gets its name. His verdict: stick with the noodles and teriyaki, and be sure to bring your appetite.

Wednesday: Patch stopped by a in Renton where the state fire marshal used mannequins to show how the mishandling of explosives can have dire consequences. Although fireworks are banned for private use in the city of Redmond, they are legal in unincorporated King County and other parts of the nearby region.

Thursday: We , a native of India who overcame personal tragedy and has devoted much of his spare time to helping needy children around the world. Thomas recently received his high school diploma from the Insight School of Washington, an online institution that named him "Student of the Year."
