Redmond Patch Week in Review

Here's a quick recap of some of our top stories from the past seven days.

Monday: A 21-year-old Redmond man was arrested Monday in connection to a Sunday shooting that killed a 20-year-old Eastlake High School graduate. Cornelius J. De Jong IV faces charges of first-degree manslaughter and will be arraigned Feb. 27 at the King County Courthouse in Seattle.

Tuesday: Local transportation leaders gathered early this week to discuss a federal bill that they say would seriously jeopardize several Puget Sound-area transit projects, including East Link light rail. The bill is currently being debated in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Wednesday: We shared the story of the Giving Chicks, an Eastside giving circle that promotes socializing for a good cause. Each month, the group of women picks a different charity to support each month and has donated more than $50,000 since its inception in 2007.

Thursday: One Redmond representatives led a panel discussion earlier in the week about the new initiative and what it will mean for Redmond businesses. The unified group aims to have a board of representatives in place by June or July, according to Redmond Mayor John Marchione.

Friday: The entire Puget Sound region was buzzing Friday over President Obama's visit to the area. Obama first stopped by the Boeing factory in Everett to talk about jobs and manufacturing. From there, he took a helicopter to the Eastside, landing at Northwest University in Kirkland and attending two private fundraising events in Medina and Bellevue. Saturday: Redmond Patch turned 1 year old Saturday, and we took the opportunity to say thanks to all our readers and supporters. We're looking forward to a stellar second year providing the Redmond community with news and information.

Sunday: Solomon Metalwala, father of missing Redmond toddler Sky Metalwala, held a vigil this weekend at a downtown Bellevue park. Metalwala said he isn't giving up hope that someone out there can help find Sky.
