Redmond Patch Week in Review

Here's a recap of some of our top stories from the last seven days.

Sunday: A group of Microsoft employees recently in Kirkland as part of the software company's Day of Caring service event. The volunteers planted native vegetation around the playground and throughout the rest of the school grounds.

Monday: This week's About Town column featured Redmond entrepreneur Ivan Joseph, founder of a local daily deals site called YubiT. Joseph said his site differs from its competitors because of its flexible pay structure and local focus.

Tuesday: Redmond's ranking as a bicycle-friendly city has been upgraded to silver by the League of American Bicyclists. The new designation puts Redmond in the nation's top 50 cities for cyclists, according to the LAB.

Wednesday: Redmond city officials decided Wednesday they received a week earlier calling for a special election on the city's red-light camera program. The petition's primary sponsor called the city's decision "shocking" and said he is considering taking legal action.

Thursday: Looking for a new restaurant to check out on the Eastside? This week's Fork Dork dining column featured Bis on Main, a longtime Bellevue favorite that just celebrated 13 years of operation. Bis on Main's restauranteur Joe Vilardi says one of his keys to success has been customer service.

Friday: A King County redistricting committee has voted 5-0 on a new plan that would add more of Redmond to District 6 of the county council. Council vice-chair Jane Hague currently occupies the seat but is up for re-election this November.
