India Day Cultural Programs at VALA Art Studio

In conjunction with the VALA Art Studio: Artist in
Residence (AIR) Program, a holiday venue for artists in action in Redmond Town
Center, *VALA will host special events for the community to meet local
artists in action, purchase handmade arts and participate in art activities
including music and dance performances. All events will take place in the
former Borders Bookstore at 16549 NE 74th Street.

On December 14th, VALA Art Studio hosts India Day Cultural Programs produced by Redmond artist and Washington State Arts Commissioner Latha Sambamurti. The full program features various forms of group and solo Indian dance and a fashion show of
Indian dresses which are gaining popularity across the globe.

Kathak Dance of North India by Leela Kathak Dancers - One of five classical dance forms, Kathak is recognized for its natural movements, amazing spins and intricate footwork.

Fashion Show by Ravishing Women - A showcase of beauty and dreams tied together with the Indian tradition & culture. Ravishing Women outfits represent modern India wrapped with traditional & cultural outfits like Saree, Anarkalis Dress, & Lehengas.

Bharatanatyam Dance by Preetha - Preetha, Co-Artistic Director of the Abhinay School training in Bharatanatyam and Carnatic Classical Vocal, performs a dance that perpetuates the beauty of Pandanallur style.

Odissi Dance by Urvasi Dance Ensemble - Little known in most of India, the Classical Odissi dance tradition is characterized by the juxtaposition of lyrical torso movements and the powerful portrayal of female characters from the myths and epics of India.

Bharatanatyam Dance by Nrityalaya - Nrityalaya dance group will perform the ancient classical art form, Bharatanatyam which is a combination of pure dance and expressions to narrate stories.
