Quilt designer and seamstress, Joanne Westlund, got the idea of a centennial quilt as a fundraiser for the Redmond Historical Society in light of the upcoming Redmond Centennial in 2012.  After much research, the Log Cabin design was selected as being perfect, considering that many of Redmond’s original buildings and homesteads were log cabins.  Twenty squares have been incorporated by ten different contributors for a quilt that is 76 inches by 90 inches.  After many visits to Calico Country Quilt Shop, the final fabric selection was completed with assistance from Emilynn Eichman. Machine quilter, Sharon Bakke, donated her time, and with help from Joanne the quilt was entirely machine quilted in six hours.  Not only are beautiful quilt squares on the front, but the stitching on the back is beautiful as well.  It will be raffled off in January of next year.

Stop by the Redmond Historical Society office in Room 106 of The Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, 16600 NE 80 Street, to see the quilt and make your ticket purchase.  In addition you will be supporting the efforts of the Redmond Historical Society to “discover, recover, preserve, share and celebrate Redmond’s history.”   The quilt will also be on display at our regular Saturday meetings starting in the Fall.
