Pet of the Week: Happy Go Lucky Puppy Adjusting to Life on Three Legs

Lucky the pit bull mix is on his way to recovery after being hit by a car two months ago.

Redmond-based Motley Zoo Animal Rescue is searching for a home for 5-month-old Lucky, a pit bull mix who is adjusting to life on three legs after being hit by a car last May.

Nerve damage prompted the removal of his broken leg, and Lucky is now on his way to returning to a happy, energetic life.

Notes from Lucky's Foster Home: Lucky is a very sweet, affectionate 5-month-old puppy. Lucky had a rough go when he first arrived, dealing with a bad break and the pain associated it with. Finally due to nerve damage, he had the bad leg removed and he is doing so much better on three legs than he was on four! He still falls at times, but it is less and less everyday! One VERY important note: he should NEVER be allowed around deep water without supervision; he fell into his foster's pond and wasn't able to swim out with only three legs, he needed human rescue! He is still getting his balance down with three legs as well, which is why we think he fell in the pond in the first place! Lucky is SUCH a happy guy and he absolutely loves being outside. He is a medium energy puppy but he quiets down instantly when he's in his crate. He loves to give kisses and try to sit in your lap every chance he gets. His foster mom doesn't have any cats, so we don't know how he does with them but he does well with her dogs (both small and large).

Lucky and his foster are working on going potty on command outside. Like a true pittie, Lucky hates the rain and will do his business quick during inclement weather and get back inside as quick as he can. :) His foster mama actually commented 'We have never had a foster dog be so good in the crate at night before!' He can't work on obedience training right now (don't want to hinder his healing process by practicing 'sit' or 'come') but he is a smart little boy that we think will learn commands quickly once his leg has fully healed. He seems to learn quickly and he wants to please his people so badly. Lucky is also in the mouthing puppy stage so firm and consistent training will be very important for him regarding this behavior so it doesn't develop into a habit. He is a wonderful pup that is a joy to have around and will be a great family pet!

How to adopt: Email adopt@motleyzoo.org to request an adoption application. For more information about Lucky, check out his Petfinder profile or visit www.motleyzoo.org.

What's your sun profile? Would someone be able to plant veggies, sunflowers?--or are you more cool,Read More wet, shady in your locale? And do you have a generic gmail account people can contact you at, to preserve your privacy?

Our front yard gets a fair amount of sun, it faces south. Back yard is more shady/wet. We've beenRead More trying to grow grass back there and just have never had good success. I would be open to whatever someone suggests for planting (veggies, sunflowers whatever). People can contact me at ariana at chris burgess dot com.
