The Great Fantasist Anne McCaffrey Has Passed Away

Anne McCaffrey has died at her home in Ireland at the age of 85.

Anne McCaffrey, who was the first woman to win both the Hugo and Nebula Awards for science fiction, has passed away at her home in Ireland at the age of 85.

Well-known for her Dragonriders of Pern series, which still has an active following among readers of fantasy, she continued to write, often with collaborators, well into her final years. Her bibliography is long and distinguished, with hordes of loyal fans who read everything she produced.

I was lucky to have had Anne blurb my first novel, and to meet her in London that same year of 1995. She was both kind and generous to new writers, and she will be much missed in the world of publishing and in her wide readership.
