Hancock's Bakery Is a Secret Addiction

Hancock's Bakery holds a secret—they're highly addictive, and you really can't just eat one...of anything!

Firstly, let me start by saying I have an addiction problem, and it's called ! Secondly, we can't go by Hancock's Bakery here in Redmond without my daughter getting her favorite Butter Cookie with Sprinkles.

These cookies are crumbly and melt in your mouth kind of cookies. The texture is right on par with a Sandy crossed with a sugar cookie, although also resembling a flaky shortbread. Its unique flavor and texture has satisfied the world's pickiest eater—my daughter. Way to go, Hancock's! I've been trying every variation of cookie, and this is the only kind she'll eat.

Of course, the upside to our going is that Mom can get her Cinnamon Twists that are flaky and chewy with a soft texture with a hint of cinnamon and icing in each bite. These are part of my own personal addiction. If I had known about them when I was pregnant with my daughter, I would have moved in, literally. There is no stopping a pregnant mama with a craving! My husband would laugh at me when I was on a craving run, because we all know what happens when a pregnant mama can't find her craving of choice... Yes, it would have been a very good thing if we could've found this place in search of the perfect cinnamon twist. Everyone seems to have their own unique version of a cinnamon twist with their own flavors combinations and textures, but nothing can compare to these.

And of course, finally, let us not forget that if Dad finds out we went without picking up his Chocolate Éclair and Red Velvet Cupcake, we would definitely hear about it later. He loves the thick outer shell of the éclair, with the gooey center and the chocolate layer on top, these are one of those treats he'll eat in a separate room so he doesn't have to share. Tsk tsk!

While, yes, we could make these at home with our own versions, there is something special about this small family owned bakery that brings you back in again and again. They've been in business for 24 years! Each baked item has its own unique flavor and texture with an assorted variety to please just about everyone. I noticed just the other day that they had added a Gluten-Fee Haystack added to their abundant supply of items, and I have to admit that since I found the place, I never noticed their variety of breads by the cold case. I have an excuse! Who couldn't not look at all the sweets and be completely satisfied?

I did pick up a loaf of white bread, and honestly, it reminded me of some of the best bread I ever had, and memories came flooding back of baking with my Mom, except we made dinner rolls instead of bread, but it's that wonderful light, soft on the bite with a buttery top that makes it all worthwhile. Baked goods always taste better with your Mom, and this bread was one of those that brought back some great memories.

Don't forget to ask them about their custom made cakes. They have a variety of custom flavors and fillings in a variety of sizes at a very decent price. They are also one of the few bakeries that I know of to do a charity cake for local events that are raising money for charity. Global Breakthrough that recently had a Night of Art and Music at was the proud recipient of one of their masterpieces.

Another reason I love Hancock's Bakery is that they donate baked goods to . This husband and wife team are truly amazing people, and they definitely do their part for their community.

Hancock's also does wholesale so if you're not in the area, you can also find them at Soulfood Books.

I have to admit that I've never been able to match their items in my baking, and trust me I've tried! So, I'll let them keep their secrets, but they need to keep baking these yummy goodies. Do we have a deal, Hancock's Bakery?

PS: They have an espresso bar!
