17-year-old Cadet Earns FAA Private Pilot License

Local cadet who flew solo before he could drive earns his pilots license.

Overlake Squadron Cadet 2d Lt Mitchell Holliday recently completed his FAA flight test and is now a licensed Private Pilot - Glider.

Cadet Holliday began flying gliders with the Civil Air Patrol orientation flight program for cadets in 2008. Every cadet is allowed five glider and five powered aircraft flights funded by the Air Force.

Cadet Holliday attended the Desert Eagle Flight Encampment in Ephrata, Wash., during July of 2009 and flew solo in a CAP glider later that summer, before he ever drove solo in the family car. He also attended the advanced glider school at Desert Eagle in 2010 and returns again once more this summer for powered flight training.
