Volunteer Opportunity- Host Spanish Immersion Students in Kirkland/Redmond this summer

I am working with Educational Homestay Programs, a non-profit division of Education First (EF), to find host families for 17 students ages 14-18 who will be coming to the area this summer from Spain. The program is a bit different from a typical study abroad program in that it is immersion based. This means that the students will not attend classes. Rather, they will practice their English through everyday communication. While the students will have field trips/excursions twice a week, most of the time will be spent with their host families. Therefore, we would like to place the students with families where at least one parent or teenager will be home (or otherwise spending time with the Spanish student) most of the time.

The program's exact dates are still being finalized, but the students will be in the Kirkland/Redmond area for approximately four weeks this July (2014). Past students have preferred staying in homes with another student around their age, which provides a great opportunity for cross-cultural learning. Host families are asked to provide a bed, three meals a day, and light transportation. Families can choose the gender of their host student. Additionally, American students are eligible to earn up to 60 hours of community service for participating in hosting a foreign student.

Please contact me with any questions or to find out more! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to make a lifelong friend while learning more about the Spanish language and culture.
