Update: Medical Examiner Identifies Body Found Near Bear Creek

Redmond Police say there do not appear to be signs of foul play in the incident.

Update, 2:30 p.m. Oct. 22: The King County Medical Examiner has identified the man found dead in Redmond last Thursday as Hayden Powell, 26.

The cause of Powell's death is still pending, according to the medical examiner's office, and could take several more weeks to determine.

Original story, Oct. 18: A passerby discovered a man's body Thursday morning in a wooded area near Bear Creek behind the Safeway store in the 17200 block of Redmond Way.

Lt. Charlie Gorman said the Redmond Fire Department received a call at around 9:45 a.m. reporting an unresponsive person in the area. Emergency officials arrived a short time later and determined the man, believed to be in his 20s, was deceased.

Gorman said police officials have periodically received reports of transient individuals in that area, and added that it “looks like (the man) might have spent the night down here.” Foul play is not suspected at this time, Gorman said.

Police are waiting for the arrival of the King County Medical Examiner, who will determine the official cause of death. Patch will update this story when more information is available.

What is it about the area around and behind this Safeway that is causing it to become transient central? They found a meth lab there a few weeks ago. Hopefully Marchione will look into it and send a crew back there with a few brush hogs and chainsaws to clear it out so it's not so condusive to illegal activity. Condolences to the deceased man's friends and family.

You would think with all of the Redmond police departments new cars they could keep up with crime. Guess that was a waste of money.
