Update: 520 Vehicle Fire Extinguished

A VW van went up in flames Monday afternoon on eastbound 520 at the State Route 202 exit.

Fire crews were called to eastbound State Route 520 Monday afternoon to put out a fire that had engulfed a VW bus near the SR 202 exit.

Trooper Julie Startup, a spokeswoman with the state patrol, said the incident began at about 4:45 p.m. Monday when the vehicle began smoking and its driver pulled off the highway onto the SR 202 off-ramp. Flames soon developed.

Startup said at about 5:10 p.m. that the fire had been extinguished from overhead by a "jet water gun" flown by the Mountlake Terrace Fire Department. The also responded to the scene.
