No injuries were reported after a car caught fire in the middle of Sahalee Way Wednesday afternoon near Northeast Sammamish Park and the Sahalee Country Club, according to emergency responders.

Sammamish police said the engine of a gray Volvo traveling in the southbound lanes of Sahalee Way NE caught fire as it approached the intersection with NE 37th Way.

Sammamish Police Sgt. Jessica Sullivan said there were no injuries and no collision was involved. The fire started due to a mechanical issue.

Two fire engines from Eastside Fire & Rescue and a ladder truck from Redmond Fire responded and extinguished the flames of the car, which partially blocked the roadway.

Upon arrival, firefighters said flames were visible, but the solo female driver of the vehicle escaped and was standing nearby.

Police temporarily closed Sahalee Way NE from the Gray Barn at NE Redmond-Falll City Road to NE 37th Way at 3 p.m., but the road is expected to re-open shortly.
