Multiple Fire Departments Battle All Wood Recycling Blaze in Redmond

Redmond, Kirkland, and Seattle fire crews responded to the blaze this afternoon, and all surrounding roads are open, officials say.

All Wood Recycling, Inc., with a facility at 19200 Union Hill Road in Redmond, was the location of a fire that consumed scrap wood of 200-feet by 300-feet and with flames up to 70 feet tall, as well as resources of Redmond, Kirkland, Eastside Fire & Rescue, Woodinville, Bellevue, and Seattle firefighters Wednesday, Aug. 21.

The Seattle Fire Department Strike team, which includes personnel that staff with extensive training to detect, contain and neutralize deadly nuclear, biological and chemical agents, according to the Seattle City Website,  was called in for reinforcements, but not due to hazardous materials, Redmond Public Information Officer Julie Beard said.

The fire broke out at All Wood Recycling around 12 p.m. Wednesday, Redmond Fire Department staff said, and resulted in a brief closure of a nearby road. According to the department, the fire has been contained, but crews were expected to stay on the scene overnight to ensure that a new blaze did not erupt.

The cause is still under investigation, but is possibly the result of an overheated slash or compost pile, officials said.

All Wood Recycling handles cut trees and stumps which are recycled into clean hog fuel, garden chips, landscape mulch, and clean animal bedding. The hog fuel is burned as means of producing clean energy.

All roads surrounding the area were open Wednesday evening, though slowdowns persisted through the area, and there were no reported injuries in the fire.
