Kirkland Police Investigate Break-In Attempt in Houghton, Burglary on Rose Hill

Police do not yet know if the two cases, about an hour apart Thursday morning and within a few miles, are related.

Kirkland Police were investigating an attempted break-in at a home in Houghton Thursday morning and a burglary about an hour later a few miles away on Rose Hill. Police do not yet know if the two cases are related.


The Kirkland Police K9 unit picked up a track but could not locate the suspect in the first incident, at about 10:15 Thursday morning at a house in the 6200 block of 108th Avenue NE.

An elderly female resident was upstairs and heard glass break, then called police, said Sgt. Rob Saloum, Kirkland Police spokesman. At least four units responded, including the K9 team, but no suspect was located.

Then at about 11:30 a.m. a woman returned to her home in the 13000 block of NE 70th Street on Rose Hill after being away for a couple hours to find she had been burglarized.

“We don’t know if it’s the same (suspect),” said Saloum.

Nothing was taken in the first incident. “She interrupted them,” Saloum said.

The victim in the Rose Hill burglary, however, likely did lose property. “She saw stuff tossed all over and went to the neighbors’,” Saloum said.

Police were still on the scene investigating Thursday afternoon so exactly what was taken is not yet known.
