The 2013 Polar Plunge benefitting Special Olympics Washington at Redmond's Idylwood Beach Park Saturday broke records for plungers and funds raised, police said Monday.
"Thanks to those who came out for the plunge on Saturday—it was record breaking and we’ll have photos and video up on our website hopefully by the end of the week," said Redmond police spokesman Jim Bove. "But most importantly we set a record of at least 115 plungers and right now we are over $27,000 in donations but we still have much that hasn’t come in (matching gifts from businesses, etc.)."
The previous record for Redmond for both was in 2012, when 73 people took the plunge just over $11,000 was raised, Bove said. All money goes to Special Olympics Washington.
