The issued a warning to residents Friday about a string of wheel thefts that have impacted the city since late last year.

Police are advising residents to take photographs of their wheels and record a serial number if one exists. Bove said people should look out for the following suspicious activity:

  • If they are taking more than one wheel off…who rotates their tires in the middle of the night?
  • If vehicles are parked next to it, but they are still removing more than one. This would be understandable for a flat, but if you’re rotating tires then you’d usually park somewhere there is space.
  • If there is another car “waiting around” for them to be finished

Bove said the vehicles are being left propped up on cinder blocks, bricks or jacks. Anyone who sees something suspicious is asked to call 911 immediately.

Redmond Police also offers an "Operation Identification" program to help residents record the serial numbers and other identification information for their valuables. You can download a brochure from the city's website by clicking here.

"This is valuable information that can often lead to an arrest when crimes occur," Bove said in the email.
