Redmond Teen Arrested After Alleged Assault Near Bike Park

Police say a 17-year-old boy pulled a knife and shoved another teenager to the ground. No one was injured.

A 17-year-old boy from unincorporated Redmond faces charges of second-degree assault after he allegedly threatened another teenager with a knife near the site of the proposed Redmond Bike Park on Wednesday evening.

Police said the suspect approached a group of three other teenagers who were hanging out in the 17200 block of NE 104th St. at about 9 p.m. and asked if the victim, a 15-year-old boy, would like to buy an iPod, which police said had been stolen.

When the victim declined, police say the suspect pulled out a knife and threatened to use it. He then shoved the victim to the ground, police said, and fled on foot with two other people who were not involved in the altercation. No one was injured.

Police were able to identify and detain the suspect after he posted a comment on his Facebook profile about the police not being able to catch him. Department spokesman Jim Bove said a friend of the victim saw the comment and notified the victim's family, who shared the information with police.

The alleged assault comes as some residents to plans to turn the unofficial bike park, which has been used for decades, into a formal facility. Bove said he is not aware of any other recent altercations near the proposed site.
