Seattle Police Donate Horse to Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center

After eight years with the SPD Mounted Patrol Unit, Blaze has a new job working with disabled children and adults at the center.

Blaze the retired Seattle police horse is taking on a new gig working with disabled kids and adults at Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center in Redmond.

The 13-year-old horse was with SPD's Mounted Patrol Unit for eight years, according to a report on MyNorthwest.com, and the constant time spent on pavement was getting to be too much for him to handle.

"He was starting to have some health problems. But they knew he wasn't ready to retire and just be a pasture pet and they were looking for something new," Lindsey Peterson, a Little Bit spokeswoman, told the website. "So they learned about Little Bit, got in touch with us and it was a perfect match."
