Redmond police say they've seen in the last few years exactly what’s been seen throughout the state and nationally: that texting is more of a problem with adults than teens.

A recent USA Today article discusses the issue: Texting in traffic: Adults worse than teens.

"Remember, we are role models for youngsters," Bove said. "It’s unfortunate we need to be reminded."

The special patrols were in response to an increase in rear-end collisions within the city, police said. In 2012, 40 percent of Redmond's 750 collisions were rear-end crashes—many of which showed no evidence of braking prior to impact.
