520 Bridge Back Open in Both Directions After Weekend Construction

State Route 520 is now open following a nearly 29-hour construction closure. The next full weekend closure is tentatively scheduled for mid-March.

State Route 520 is now open following a nearly 29-hour construction closure, according to the Washington Department of Transportation. Crews opened both directions of the highway at 3:52 a.m. Feb. 3.

During the closure crews installed two overhead structures for electronic message signs and spliced in nearly 5 miles of new fiber optic cables for the Washington State Department of Transportation’s traffic flow map and cameras.

The work shifted the pieces of WSDOT’s Intelligent Transportation System out of the way of highway widening between Lake Washington and Interstate 405.

The next full weekend closure is tentatively scheduled for March 15-18.

The completed Medina to Bellevue corridor is scheduled to open to traffic in December 2013. More information about the SR 520 Eastside project is online at www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR520Bridge/MedinaTo202.
