State Route 520 between Montlake Boulevard and Interstate 405 reopened Monday morning in both directions after a weekend closure, but more than an hour later than planned.
Crews had planned to have both lanes reopened by 5 a.m., but didn't finish resetting traffic barriers on both eastbound and westbound lanes until about 6:40 a.m.
Because the delay occurred early in the morning, it did not appear to worsen traffic on adjacent routes.
"We're still looking into what caused the delay," said Bart Treece, spokesman for the Washington Department of Transportation. "It was surprising how traffic looked. I-90 was great. It probably did inconvenience some drivers who had to take alternate routes."
The . Crews worked through the weekend on maintenance and construction, including inspection and repairs to the floating bridge, demolishing the old 84th Avenue Northeast overpass and installing more than 200 concrete panels as part of a new lidded overpass at Evergreen Point Road, according to WSDOT.
