County's Hazardous Wastemobile to Visit Kirkland This Weekend
Pioneering program offers free and convenient disposal of unwanted hazardous waste.
King County residents can safely dispose of their household hazardous waste when the Wastemobile visits Kirkland this Friday through Sunday, June 24 to 26.
The hazardous waste collection will be in the parking lot of , 12221 120th Ave. NE, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The Wastemobile then travels to Bothell from July 8 to 10. The collection point there will be at the Seattle Times building parking lot, 19200 120th Ave. NE.
Items that qualify as household hazardous waste include herbicides, pesticides, oil-based paints, automotive products (oil, antifreeze, auto batteries, etc.) and fluorescent bulbs/tubes. A complete list can be found here. The service is free.

Now in its 22nd year, the hazardous waste collection program was the first of its kind in the nation. It is operated by King County Solid Waste Division as part of the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program, a local government coalition of the City of Seattle, King County and the suburban cities in King County. Since its inception in 1989, the Wastemobile has collected more than 14,000 tons of hazardous household waste from 333,000 residents.
“This service is a safe, easy and convenient way for all residents across King County to dispose of their household hazardous waste,” said Jay Watson, program administrator. “There is no charge to drop off these unwanted products, because residents already pay for this service through their garbage and sewer utility bills.”

Besides collecting unwanted items, the Wastemobile will provide free products to the public, such as oil-based paint, stain and primer, plus wood care and cleaning products. These products are subject to availability, and residents will need to sign a release form prior to receiving materials.
